Venture Building & Advisory Assistant (Legal, Research, Insights & Client Delivery Support)

We are seeking an analytically sharp, relentlessly curious, and execution-minded assistant with a strong legal background to support business advisory and venture-building engagements across Africa’s entrepreneurship ecosystem. This role combines deep-dive legal/regulatory research, stakeholder mapping, investment and partnership support, and high-quality writing helping translate complex market, policy, and regulatory shifts into actionable insight for founders, partners, and clients. The ideal candidate is exceptionally smart and humble, highly organised, and passionate about entrepreneurship, innovation, and building Africa’s venture ecosystem, with the ability to support client delivery through structured analysis, documentation, and coordination

Key Responsibilities
A. Legal & Regulatory Research
  • Conduct thematic research on priority tech sectors (e.g., AI, Fintech, Logistics) and African markets to identify regulatory shifts, compliance considerations, licensing regimes, and policy trends affecting startups and investors.

  • Track and summarise legal developments: regulator guidance, legislation, enforcement patterns, data/privacy requirements, consumer protection, payments rules, IP considerations, and cross-border risks.

  • Produce clear outputs: regulatory memos, risk notes, “what’s changing + why it matters” briefs, and compliance checklists (non-legal-advice framing as required).

B. Advisory & Venture-Building Delivery Support
  • Support execution of advisory engagements and venture-building workstreams (founder support, ecosystem initiatives, strategic programmes, media/communications support).

  • Build and maintain project trackers, timelines, meeting notes, decision logs, and deliverable checklists.

  • Coordinate inputs across collaborators (legal, finance, operations, programme teams) to ensure consistent follow-through and high-quality delivery.

C. Investment, Partnership & Due Diligence Support (Legal lens)
  • Review pitch decks and investment materials; provide structured feedback on risk flags, regulatory assumptions, and defensibility.

  • Support venture assessments using clear rubrics (problem, market, traction, business model, team, risks, and next steps), with attention to regulatory feasibility.

  • Support partnership and deal documentation readiness: term sheet summaries, key clauses to watch, governance considerations, and basic diligence checklists (as appropriate).

D. Content Synthesis & Communication
  • Draft high-quality reports, briefings, and presentations that translate complex legal/regulatory and market analysis into clear, actionable insight.

  • Prepare client-ready post-meeting summaries (key takeaways, decisions, action points, timelines, owner assignment).

  • Support creation of partner materials (one-pagers, ecosystem briefs, regulatory explainers, research write-ups).

E. Strategic Mapping & Stakeholder Profiling
  • Identify and profile key stakeholders: founders, investors, ecosystem builders, policy leaders/regulators, corporates, and potential partners.

  • Maintain a structured stakeholder database with notes, relevance tags, and engagement history.

  • Support partnership scoping by identifying fit, incentives, and recommended outreach approaches—especially where policy/regulatory relationships matter.

3) Required Skills & Experience (Legal-Forward)
  • Legal background required: final-year law student, law graduate, early-career legal associate, or equivalent demonstrated capability (LLB/BL or comparable).

  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills; ability to synthesise quickly without losing accuracy.

  • Excellent writing and communication skills; perfectly fluent in English (French is a strong advantage).

  • Strong interest in Africa’s economic and political landscape and how regulation shapes markets.

  • Highly organised; able to manage multiple workstreams independently with strong follow-through.

  • Comfortable working with business and venture concepts (startup models, markets, traction); ability to learn quickly.

Nice to have

  • Exposure to: startup law, fintech regulation, data protection, IP, corporate/commercial practice, competition/consumer protection, cross-border trade rules.

  • Experience in startups, VC, accelerators/incubators, consulting, or policy spaces.

  • Comfort with Excel/Sheets for basic analysis and structured tracking (even if not finance-heavy).
